Vancouver, April 21, 2020 - Vancouver Coastal Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 among staff at United Poultry Company Ltd.

The chicken processing camp is located at 534 East Cordova St. in Vancouver and the potential outbreak was first identified when an employee tested positive on Sunday, April 19.

A VCH public health team went to the processing plant on Monday and tested the 71 staff who were there at the time and that resulted in another 27 cases for a total of 28. The plant was closed down that day.

“There is no evidence to suggest that food is a likely source or route of transmission for the virus,” said a statement from VCH.

“At this time, there have been no reported cases of food or food packaging being associated with the transmission of COVID-19.”

As a result, there have been no recalls issued regarding chicken products distributed from this plant.
